The team at CoreComm Development Kft. has been accepted into the European Space Agency’s Business Incubation Program. The program aims to support Hungarian startups related to the space industry or utilizing space research technologies. It helps entrepreneurs turn their ideas into viable, internationally competitive businesses by providing financial support as well as professional and business mentoring.

The program’s main objectives:

Business development: Supporting the commercialization of space industry innovations

Building international relationships: Introduction to the European Space Agency’s (ESA) international network

CoreComm Development Plc. won the grant with the PyroLoop project:

The PyroLoop project is an innovative circular waste management concept for both space and Earth.
Waste generated during space missions is typically stored, released during reentry, or returned to Earth, which increases costs, mass, and operational complexity. As humanity prepares for longer missions to the Moon and Mars, more sustainable solutions are needed.

PyroLoop addresses this challenge by converting waste generated during missions into valuable resources—resources that support closed-loop food production systems.

Our vision is to help future lunar and Martian outposts operate with greater self-sufficiency and rely less on resupply from Earth.

PyroLoop is a compact system that sterilizes mixed waste, generates energy, and facilitates plant cultivation in space—all within a single integrated module—thereby reducing critical system mass. It is energy-efficient, modular in design, and was engineered from the outset for closed-loop operation.

Beyond space exploration, the technology also holds promise for terrestrial applications. When integrated into controlled-environment agricultural and vertical farming systems, PyroLoop can support food production and resource efficiency in remote locations, research stations, mining sites, and other isolated environments.

PyroLoop is not a new pyrolysis reactor, nor is it a new vertical farm. PyroLoop is the missing link that connects the two into a single, thermodynamically closed-loop process. According to the concept, a modular, oxygen-free pyrolysis reactor thermally decomposes green waste and biomass; the resulting synthesis gas and pyrolysis oil generate electricity and heat in a combined heat and power (CHP) unit, while the solid residue—high-purity carbon with a large specific surface area—is returned to the farm as a nutrient-rich substrate and water purification media.

Four utilization pathways from a single material stream:

-
electricity, usable heat and cooling, and carbon substrate—this level of integration is lacking in competing technologies.
-
Charcoal is not a fuel, but a product. Between 40% and 56% of the chemical energy in the input biomass is intentionally retained in the solid fraction, which can be used as a secondary raw material.
-
The concept is backed by an ESA-supported laboratory validation program.

The ESA BIC incubation program offers an excellent opportunity to validate the technology, strengthen our partnerships, and promote the development of sustainable “waste-to-energy” solutions applicable both in space and on Earth.

We believe that in future space missions, nothing is waste—everything is a resource.
